Dear neighbors,
You may have received a notice about a “hotel/motel” coming to East Cesar Chavez. We are the owners of this project and wanted to provide additional information. Please browse our website and if you have any questions or concerns, email us. We would be happy to speak with you!

Project: Conversion of an existing home at 1609 E. Cesar Chavez into small 7-room bed and breakfast/hotel. We believe we will provide a needed resource to the community, as we will be the only lodging available to Eastside residents and businesses. Our goal is to begin construction late April and open in January 2011.
Design Details: We will preserve the lovely 1925 Craftsman home that currently occupies the property. All large trees will also be preserved. The building will be improved to commercial standards. A second story addition and parking will be added. The addition is well below height restrictions and meets all compatibility guidelines. All required parking will be on site. Please see the Project Design page for images and more information.

Neighborhood Endorsement: We have followed the design guidelines outlined in the Cesar Chavez Neighborhood Plan and have received the endorsement of the East Cesar Chavez Neighborhood Planning Team, the authors of the neighborhood plan. View the endorsement letter.
About the Owners: Kathy and George are Eastside residents. We have been married for 5 years and have owned our home on the Eastside, south of Riverside, for 10 years. It has been a dream to own a small bed and breakfast in Austin, and we are very excited to be part of the East Cesar Chavez neighborhood! We look forward to being your neighbors! Please see the About Us page for more information.
About the Business Management: Kathy and George will personally manage all day-to-day operations at the property. We will check in all guests, perform all housekeeping, etc. We will strive to be the very definition of a “mom and pop,” neighborhood business.
Zoning: No zoning change is required. As a condition of the neighborhood plan, the owners were required to get a conditional use permit to operate a “7-room hotel/motel” on this property. This permit will apply to this 7-room inn only and does not transfer to other development efforts or any future expansion of this property. A larger hotel cannot open on this property under this permit. The project received the City of Austin Staff recommendation and received a unanimous 9-0 vote of approval from the Austin Planning Commission. In March, we received the unanimous support of Austin City Council. Please see the Zoning/Permits page for more information.
Thank you for visiting our website and please contact us if we can be of service.
Your neighbors,
Kathy and George
